May is Mental Health Month

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH. THE THEME IS LOOK AROUND - LOOK WITHIN

Self care

Ten things you can do for your mental health:

Value yourself - treat yourself with kindness and respect, avoid self-criticism

Take care of your body - eat nutritious meals, drink plenty of water, avoid smoking/vaping, exercise, sleep

Surround yourself with good people - people with strong family or social connections are healthier than those who lack support network

Give yourself - volunteer - help someone else

Learn how to deal with stress - like it or not, stress is a part of life. Try one minute stress strategies, tai chi, nature walk

Quiet your mind - meditation, prayer, mindfulness

Set realistic goals - decide what you would like to do academically, professionally and personally - write down steps to achieve - aim high but be realistic

Break up monotony - alter your routines - take a different path on a walk - take a different way to work, plan a road trip, hang new pictures

Avoid alcohol and other drugs

Get help when you need it - seeking help is a sign of strength not weakness - remember treatment is effective
